Bus Convoy Escorts Nearly 2,000 Militants, Family Members From Eastern Aleppo
ALEPPO (Sputnik) The convoy of Red Cross and Red Crescent buses and automobiles, carrying civilians from the villages of Fua and Kefraya, arrived in Aleppo on Monday as part of the evacuation deal between Damascus and the militants, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.

“There are 700 people in the buses. Among them children and wounded women. In total, there are 13 buses and ambulances,” a Red Cross and Red Crescent employee told RIA Novosti.

The Syrian government has demanded the evacuation of over a thousand residents from the besieged towns of Fua and Kefraya in exchange for evacuating the militants from Aleppo. The proposed agreement involves letting 1,200 residents flee the besieged areas in return for evacuating a similar number of militants and their families from Aleppo, local media reported on Sunday.

Fua and Kefraya are the only government-held enclave in Idlib's vast militant-held area. The towns of some 20,000 people have been under siege since 2013. The humanitarian situation remains dire, with a lack of food and basic necessities.
