WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President-elect Donald Trump has named Vincent Viola, the founder of the electronic trading company Virtu Financial, as his choice for secretary of the US Army, Trump's transition team said in a press release on Monday.
"President-elect Donald J. Trump today announced he intends to nominate former US Army infantry officer and current Founder and Executive Chairman Vincent "Vinnie" Viola as Secretary of the Army," the release stated.
The release noted Viola is a graduate of West Point Military Academy and a US Army veteran.
"Whether it is his distinguished military service or highly impressive track record in the world of business, Vinnie has proved throughout his life that he knows how to be a leader and deliver major results in the face of any challenge," Trump is quoted as saying in the release.
Viola said it is an honor to be nominated to serve in Trump's administration.
"I will work tirelessly to provide our President with the land force he will need to accomplish any mission in support of his National Defense Strategy," he stated.
