'Faithless' Electors in US Electoral College: Who Are They?
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Most US voters do not support a plan by some Electoral College delegates to choose a president other than President-elect Donald Trump, a Politico/Morning Consult poll revealed on Monday.

"A 46-percent plurality of voters say that electors should be bound to vote for the candidate that won their state, more than the 34 percent who think electors shouldn’t be bound if they have significant concerns about the winning candidate," Politico stated.

Half of respondents who identified as Democrats, including 52 percent of those who voted for the party’s nominee Hillary Clinton, said the electors should not be bound by their state’s vote totals.

The 538 US Electoral College members will meet on Monday to cast their ballots for the nation’s next president.

Democrats in US Congress Call for End of Electoral College to Choose President
The "Hamilton electors," a group of Democrat electors from the states of Washington and Colorado, have tried to convince fellow Democrats to support another Republican candidate as an alternative to Trump.

Trump is expected to retain all 308 Electoral College votes he won in the November 8 presidential election, beating Clinton’s 232 votes and winning the 270 votes necessary to secure the presidency.

The Politico/Morning Consult poll surveyed 2,000 registered voters from December 15-17. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
