MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the NTV broadcaster, Altintas guarded the embassy earlier this month, when there were rallies at the building protesting against the Russian involvement in Syria and the situation in the city of Aleppo.
Ankara Mayor Melih Gokcek has already confirmed that the gunman was a city police officer.
On Monday, Karlov was killed by Altintas, who was standing behind the ambassador at an art gallery exhibition opening in Ankara. Three other people were also injured in the attack. The Russian Foreign Ministry said it considers the attack a terrorist act.
