IMF’s Lagarde Won’t Appeal French Court’s Negligence Verdict, Gets Board Support
International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde said she won’t appeal the ruling of a French court that found her negligent in a case stemming from her tenure as France’s finance minister.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – On Monday, a French court found Lagarde guilty in a trial concerning a case of negligence.
"I have been held negligent, but without penalty. I’m not satisfied with it, but there is a point in time when one has to just…move on," Lagarde told a news conference in Paris on Monday. "I’m very happy to not appeal this decision."

She said she intends to focus on her work as the Fund’s top official. In Washington, DC, the IMF executive board issued a statement supporting Lagarde, saying that after a meeting to consider the court decision, the board “reaffirms its full confidence in the Managing Director’s ability to continue to effectively carry out her duties.”
Earlier Monday a special court in Paris declared Lagarde negligent in a 2008 legal case whose outcome she, as French finance minister, was accused of influencing. The court imposed no penalty, however. The case involved litigation brought by French entrepreneur Bernard Tapie against Credit Lyonnais Bank.
