US defense giant Lockheed Martin Space Systems has received an $88 million US Navy contract for support work on submarine-launched Trident II (D5) missile field deployments, the Department of Defense said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Lockheed is paid for modifications to a contract for Trident II (D5) missile field processing and deployed system support, according to the report.

More than half the work on the contract will be carried out at Sunnydale in the US state of California and at Cape Canaveral in Florida with other parts of the project being done in at least 16 other states, the Defense Department said.

The contract is expected to be completed by September 2021 and will be overseen by Strategic Systems Programs in Washington, DC, the announcement added.
