WARSAW (Sputnik) — Duda has appointed Julia Przylebska as acting head of the Constitutional Court, the presidential administration said Tuesday.
"The President of the Republic of Poland in his judgment of December 20, 2016 has entrusted Julia Przylebska with the duties of acting head of the Constitutional Court before appointing the head of the court," the presidential office said in a statement.
Rzeplinski is a vocal critic of the Law and Justice (PiS) government and its reform of the court. He called on the president the day before stepping down not to sign three laws on the Constitutional Court and rather send them to the Court for matching with the Constitution. However, Duda signed the laws on Monday.
The laws caused much criticism of the opposition due to provisions related to introducing three judges to the Constitutional Court and appointing an acting judge. Rzeplinski claimed the laws were unconstitutional.
