Europol Cooperating With Germany in Investigation of Berlin Terror Attack
European police agency Europol and its Counter Terrorism Centre is helping Germany in investigation of the terror attack in Berlin, European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs, and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos said on Wednesday.
BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — On December 19, a truck rammed into the crowd at a Berlin Christmas market on the Breitscheidplatz square, killing 12 people and injuring 49 more. The country's interior ministry has labeled the incident a terrorist attack.
"We have created and upgraded the European Counter Terrorism Centre at Europol to improve information exchange and foster more trust; and Europol is already being mobilised to help the German authorities," Avramopoulos told reporters during a press conference in Berlin as cited by the European Commission press service.

European Counter Terrorism Centre (ECTC) was created in January 2016 in order to strengthen the European Union’s response to terror. It focuses on tackling foreign fighters, countering online terrorist propaganda and extremism, sharing intelligence, and cooperating with other counterterrorism authorities.
