"In today's global environment, affordable, protected and resilient satellite communication is crucial," Raytheon Protected Communications Systems Senior Director Brian Gray said in the release.
Eventually, hardware developed and tested under the Protected Tactical Services Field Demonstration contract can be deployed as upgrades to existing satellite communication terminals, the release explained.
The upgraded system will include flexible access to commercial and government so-called SATCOM channels for seamless transition between SATCOM systems to maximize communications availability for tactical forces, the release noted.
Work on the contract is slated for completion in September 2020, the release added.
