US Lawmaker Asks for Classified Briefing on Alleged Russian Hacking on January 4
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell may be trying to bury evidence of alleged Russian interference in presidential election since he has refused to convene a select committee to probe the matter, Senator Jack Reed stated on Wednesday.

"He's either failed to recognize the import, or he simply doesn't want to have these answers presented to the American public of what went on," Reed said in an interview with CNN.

On December 16, President Barack Obama said the alleged hacking of US political institutions’ computers during the presidential-election campaign was ordered and carried out at the "highest levels" of Russia’s government.

Nearly Half of Americans Unsure Russia Responsible for US Election Hacks
Moscow has repeatedly denied it interfered in the US election, calling Washington’s accusations absurd and an attempt to distract the American public from domestic issues.

Earlier in December, a bipartisan group of US senators, including John McCain and Chuck Schumer, announced plans to form a select committee to investigate the alleged interference.

McConnell has stated, however, that the hacking is "a serious issue" but does not require a select committee to be addressed.
