The mother Gurvinderjit Kaur was also taken into custody and interrogated by the Norwegian authorities.
The child's father Anil Kumar Sharma runs an Indian restaurant in Oslo. He denied the charges leveled by the Child Welfare Department of Norway.
According to the reports received by Swaraj from the Indian envoy in Norway, the Indian government will now fight the legal battle for custody on the behalf on the behalf of the mother of the child.
This is the not the first case in Norway involving Indian child.
In 2012, a seven-year and two-year-old children were separated from their Indian parents on charges of abuse. Both the mother and father of the child were jailed after losing the legal battle.
Similarly in 2011, a three-year child and one-year-old child were taken by the Child Welfare Department of Norway but later reunited after the Indian government's intervention.
Former law maker and ‘Overseas Friends of BJP' Vijay Jolly told Sputnik that, "I have met the ambassador of Norway here and appraised him the matter. He told me that in these cases certain procedures are followed. First the concerned authorities issue a notice to the parents and then the parents are interrogated and also counseled. The authorities also ask some questions to the child to find out if he/she was mistreated. The ambassador found it surprising that this procedure was not followed in this case. ``He told me that he will convey India's concern to the Norwegian authorities. The ambassador has assured that justice will be done to the Indian couple," said Jolly.
