The US Embassy in Guatemala City said that it has been closed because of a security threat.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Embassy in Guatemala City said in a message on Friday that it has been closed because of a security threat.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the US Embassy in Guatemala City will be closed to the public from 11:00 am (5:00 pm GMT) December 30, 2016, following the receipt of a threat," the message stated.
