11:37 GMT 09.01.2017 (Updated: 11:28 GMT 06.08.2022) A Russia-US top-level meeting could take place only after US President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, due January 20, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told RIA Novosti that a possible meeting between the Russian and US leaders requires thorough preparation.
"Not earlier than the president-elect takes office. At least Trump should become president of the United States. Plans will be made after that," Peskov told reporters when asked about the dates for a possible meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump.

The Kremlin did not have any contacts with representatives of US President-elect Donald Trump during the Russian New Year holidays (December 31, 2016 – January 8, 2017), he said.
“None took place,” Peskov told reporters when asked about contacts with Trump’s team during the holidays.
Trump has repeatedly signaled willingness to normalize US relations with Russia after the bilateral ties deteriorated under US President Barack Obama.
