MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The shots were heard at the Akouedo barracks on Friday, Le Point said citing witness reports.
Shots were also reported in the northeastern city of Bondoukou on Friday.
Meanwhile the entrance to the city of Bouake, where negotiations are underway between military officials and the government, has reportedly been blocked.
Local journalists reported on Twitter that mutineers have also sealed off the northern city of Korhogo.
Last week, a number of soldiers blocked the northern and southern entrances to Bouake, demanding improvements to their living conditions and payments. Soldiers at several barracks in Abidjan, including at Akouedo, expressed solidarity with the mutineers by firing shots into the air. There were no casualties.
