The BBC broadcaster reported, citing Gambia's state television, that the state of emergency was introduced just a day before the end of Jammeh's mandate.
Meanwhile, King Mohammed VI of Morocco is prepared to give political asylum to Jammeh if he admits his defeat in the presidential election, according to local media.
For several days Moroccan diplomats in Gambia have been trying to convince Jammeh to admit his defeat, Le Desk newspaper reported on Tuesday, adding that the representatives of Morocco in their attempts count on the traditionally good relations between Morocco and Gambia.
The presidential election was held in Gambia on December 1 and resulted in Jammeh’s loss to opposition’s Adama Barrow, who was expected to come into office on Thursday. On December 10, Jammeh rejected the outcome of the election and filed a petition to the court.
