Death Toll in Italian Avalanche Rises to 16 People, 13 Still Missing
17:55 GMT 24.01.2017 (Updated: 18:09 GMT 24.01.2017) The number of people killed by an avalanche that buried an alpine hotel in central Italy last week rose to 16 after discovery of two more bodies, the Prefecture of Pescara province, where the tragedy occurred, announced on Tuesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A total of 13 people remain unaccounted for.
On January 18, central Italy was shaken by a series of earthquakes, with the biggest jolts ranging from 5.1 to 5.7 in magnitude and felt in Rome. On the same day, the avalanche in the region of Abruzzo buried the Rigopiano di Farindola hotel with dozens of guests and staff inside.
