MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the RTBF broadcaster citing the Belgian federal prosecutor, the eight raids were carried out in the communes of Laeken, Anderlecht, Molenbeek and Schaerkbeek on Tuesday evening. No explosives or weapons were found.
The case is unrelated to the attacks in Brussels and Paris, the media outlet reported, adding that the detained likely to be suspected of participating in fighting on behalf of extremists in Syria.
The broadcaster added that the local judge would decide by the end of the day whether to continue keeping the seven suspects in detention.
On November 13, 2015 Daesh carried out series of attacks in the French capital and its suburbs, killing 130 and injuring over 350 people. On March 22, 2016 explosions that hit Brussels’s airport and metro station claimed 32 lives and inflicted injuries to at least 300 people.
