The Chinese New Year, also sometimes referred to as the Spring Festival, is an important Chinese festival observed to much fanfare at the turn of the Chinese traditional lunisolar calendar.
In 2017, the first day of the Chinese New Year, the year of the Rooster, was celebrated on Saturday, January 28.
Other than in China, the Chinese New Year is also celebrated in countries with significant Chinese populations like Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.
The Chinese New Year celebrations usually continue from the evening on the eve of the first day until the Lantern Festival held on the 15th day of the first month.
