MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in January, May announced that the United Kingdom has opted for a "hard Brexit" and thus would not remain a member of the EU single market after the withdrawal from the European Union.
"I will confirm to the House that I’ve recently heard on very good authority that senior German decision-makers, shortly after the prime minister [came into office]… were keen to explore ways to deliver an emergency brake [over immigration] to the new UK prime minister — in return what they hoped for was an undisruptive economic Brexit," Clegg said speaking in the parliament.
London is expected to invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which will start Brexit negotiations, by the end of March.
