The Trump administration has decided to include the CIA in the National Security Council.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Central Intelligence Agency has been included in the National Security Council (NSC) under President Donald Trump, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said in a briefing on Monday.

"We are the administration that is adding it back into the NSC and amending it in," Spicer stated. "It was the Obama administration that did not have it in."

The press secretary made the statement commenting on a Twitter message by former President Barack Obama’s National Security Advisor Susan Rice, who asked on Sunday if the CIA was "cut out of everything."

On Saturday, Trump signed an executive order to reorganize the NSC and added White House chief strategist Steve Bannon as its permanent member.

It has previously been reported that the executive order downgraded the roles of the director of National Intelligence (DNI) and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer dismissed the claims on Monday, saying that a memorandum on the NSC restructuring issued over the weekend has been misinterpreted and the NSC advisers kept their positions.
