The Gem-like Ice of Frozen Lake Baikal
10:34 GMT 06.02.2017 (Updated: 19:29 GMT 19.10.2022) Lake Baikal is not only the oldest and the deepest lake on Earth. It is also known for being the clearest freshwater lake on our planet. You would be hard-pressed to find a place in the world with the same crystal clear ice.
In winter, the lake partly freezes and covers with 150 centimeters of solid ice. Baikal water contains so few mineral impurities, so the ice looks like pure glass.
