"A campaign of false accusations, repeated and multiplied, do not make me guilty of anything," O’Sullivan said in a statement. "I have made it clear that I was not part of any campaign to spread rumours about Sergeant McCabe and didn't know it was happening at the time it was happening. I have repeatedly refuted that claim and do so again."
Last year, former head of the police press office Superintendent David Taylor made a protected disclosure alleging he was ordered by senior management to discredit McCabe.
The commission led by Supreme Court Justice Peter Charleton will specifically look at whether Taylor was directed by O’Sullivan or the previous commissioner, Martin Callinan, and whether O’Sullivan herself leaked a false story about McCabe to the Irish national broadcaster RTE.
