US Customs and Border Protection has announced that the rate of illegal border crossings over America’s southern border plummeted 27% in January 2017.

31,575 people were apprehended in January while attempting to cross illegally, compared to 43,253 in December 2016. These numbers are expected to continue to fall with the passage of executive orders from President Donald Trump meant to expand border protection services. This includes 15,000 new enforcement agents and an immediate deportation of anyone found to be crossing the border illegally.
