An unknown individual attacked a military patrol in Paris' Orly Airport on Saturday, security forces opened fire.

The man tried to grab a soldier's weapon. The military opened fire and eliminated the individual.

Some 3,000 people have been evacuated from the airport's western terminal.

Interior Ministry’s spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet told France Info radio station that the incident did not result in any other casualties.

A special task force unit arrived at the scene to check whether the man had any accomplices. According to media, French Interior Minister Bruno Le Roux went to the airport after information on the attack. A bomb squad arrived on site to check the attacker’s body to make sure he did not have an explosives belt.

Earlier in the day, the man shot at police in the La Courneuve town near Paris, wounding one of officers, and fled. His car was found in vicinity of Orly.

France has been on alert following several terror attacks including the deadly truck ramming in Nice in July and Paris attacks in November, 2015.
