Macron's Edge Over Marine Le Pen in Presidential Runoff Grows by 1 Point
11:41 GMT 22.03.2017 (Updated: 12:26 GMT 22.03.2017) Centrist Emmanuel Macron, an independent French presidential candidate, is predicted to beat far-right Marine Le Pen in the second round of voting with 62 percent to 38 percent, increasing his edge by 1 point since the previous survey, a daily OpinionWay poll showed on Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Macron is, however, lagging behind the National Front leader in terms of support they are likely to get from voters in the first round of voting, with 24 points against 26 points.
The rest of the five key contenders are not expected to make it into the runoff.
Francois Fillon, a conservative and former favorite to win the election, is estimated to score 56 percent against Le Pen, who is set to win 44 percent of votes in a scenario where Fillon edges the current frontrunner Macron out of the race.
