MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The second power unit of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant (NPP) constructed in India with Russian participation has been transferred to New Delhi for guarantee maintenance, the Rosatom state corporation's ASE company said Friday.
According to the ASE statement, Russian and Indian sides signed an act on preliminary acceptance of the second unit. The operation of the unit is guaranteed by the commitments of the unit's main designer and equipment suppliers from Russia. It means that all potential technical problems will be fixed by the Russian side.
The guarantee maintenance will last until March 30, 2018.
The construction of the Kudankulam NPP was initially agreed by the Soviet Union and India in 1988, but the project was in limbo. The Nuclear Power Corporation of India and Russia's nuclear agency Rosatom launched a joint project to build the NPP in 2012. The first unit reached full capacity in July 2014.
The second unit was connected to India's national power grid in August 2016 and and reached full capacity in January 2017.
