WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States has an estimated 2,000 nuclear weapons, according to published reports.

"We don't need more nuclear forces, but we do need to modernize them," Hyten tweeted on Friday.

Former President Barack Obama authorized a nuclear modernization program that would cost an estimated $1 trillion over the next 30 years — an effort embraced by President Donald Trump.
