The explosion reportedly occurred inside St. George church in the city of Tanta to the north of Egypt's capital.

It happened on Palm Day, a Christian feast commemorating the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.

Tanta is one of the biggest cities in Egypt.

Investigation into the attack has been launched, the prosecutors analyze the data from the surveillance cameras. Area near the site of the explosion was cordoned off. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi ordered military hospitals to accept the injured in the blast.
The Sunday explosion in the church was followed by a blast that hit a police station in the city.
On December 11, a strong blast hit the Coptic Christian cathedral complex in Cairo, killing 25 and wounding 49 people. Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack.
