The gunman and teacher have been reported dead, while the two children were injured. The shooter committed suicide, according to local police. The San Bernardino Mayor stated that one of the two deceased was the suspect, stoking suspicions that the case was a murder-suicide. The two students are in critical condition after sustaining gunshot wounds, while one man and one woman have been confirmed dead. The man was let into the school to visit the teacher.
The suspect did not aim to attack students, the county's police Cpt. Ron Maass said in a press conference on Monday.
"The children we do not believe were targeted," Maass stated. "The suspect had come to the classroom to visit. The adult female was in the classroom."
Maass explained that upon entering the building, the suspect checked with the front office, where he believed to be known by the staff.
