'Neither Macron, Nor Le Pen': Protesters Take to the Streets of Paris (VIDEO)

Demonstrators took to the streets of Paris to protest against the results of the first round of the French presidential election, using smoke and tear gas grenades.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the video posted by Sputnik France, the protesters hold banners reading "Neither Macron, nor Le Pen."

Some of the demonstrators threw stones and bottles at the police officers, while law enforcement responded by using tear gas.

Other protesters have used smoke grenades and vandalized windows of stores and banks, leaving insulting messages about independent candidate Emmanuel Macron and right-wing Marine Le Pen.

The demonstrators have gathered in in the center of the French capital, chanting slogans against the presidential candidates and holding banners reading "Neither Le Pen, nor Macron, neither fatherland, nor the boss."

The call for a protest was launched in the social media networks by anti-fascist and anti-capitalist movements, for instance by the Generation Ingouvernable group, under hash tag #NiLePenNiMacron. According to social media reports, protests against Le Pen and Macron also took place today in other French cities, in particular in Rennes in the northwest of the country.

On April 23, independent candidate Emmanuel Macron and right-wing Marine Le Pen made it to the run-off, set for May 7.

French young people barricaded entrances to high schools in Paris, demonstrating against Macron and Le Pen.

The young people blocked 20 lyceums, the Ouest-France newspaper reported, specifying that four of the them were entirely blocked, six partially and the rest were subjected to attempts of blockade and the demonstrations take place near them.
