In his speech, Emmanuel Macron addressed his rival Marine Le Pen with "republican greeting". "I would like to send tonight a republican greeting to my rival, Marine Le Pen," Macron said in a victory speech.
He also noted the split in the French society, vowing to serve the interests of all the citizens.
He said that France will adhere to principles of peace and maintain international balance.
"I appeal, on your behalf, to the world's nations. I tell to their leaders that France… will treat in a careful manner peace, balance among world powers, and international cooperation," Macron said in a victory speech.
"I will re-establish the link between Europe and the peoples who live in it, between Europe and its citizens," Macron added.
Macron also promised to make every effort to fight terrorism.
Centrist Emmanuel Macron is winning the Sunday French presidential election, Marine Le Pen is leading so far only in seven out of 96 departments of France, notably in Pas-de-Calais, Somme, Oise, Aisne and Ardennes.
