With its first line being opened to the public in 1935, the Moscow Metro eventually evolved into a massive rapid transit system sprawling underneath the Russian capital, with over 200 stations and more than 200 miles of tracks.

Today Moscow Metro employs state-of-the-art train carriages outfitted with air conditioning systems, and since December 1, 2014 free Wi-Fi became available to all of the metro's passengers.
Far from being a stagnant system, the Moscow Metro is currently undergoing a major expansion, with over 100 kilometers of new lines expected to be opened by 2020.
