US President Donald Trump and Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos held a news conference in the middle of a controversial week for the White House and one day before Trump takes off for his first foreign trip.

Trump's comments focused on drug crimes taking place in both Colombia and the US, including record-high drug production in Colombia, which Trump hopes Santos will remedy "quickly." He also said the "Venezuelan problem" is one of the biggest topics in need of international cooperation.

Trump said "there's no food, there's violence" in "poverty stricken" Venezuela. He said that despite its oil reserves and other potential, the once "very, very wealthy country" has been "unbelievably poorly run."

Concerning the nomination of former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate Trump, the president said that though he respected the move, it was only a continuation of a massive "witch hunt."

Trump Says He Never Asked Comey to Close Flynn Probe
"Believe me, there's no collusion," Trump said, "between, certainly myself, and my campaign" with Russia.

Trump noted that Mueller's appointment "divides" the country.

Trump said "No. No. Next question" when asked if he told Comey to shut down ex-FBI Director James Comey's investigation into ousted National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

Comey was fired on May 9.
