MOSCOW (Sputnik) — An unknown male assailant fired several rounds at the guards protecting the parliament building in Tehran, wounding seven in the hallway on Wednesday morning, FarsNews reports.

According to initial reports, the assailant opened his way into the parliament building while shooting at the guards, leading to the injury of one of the IRGC guards and six civilians.
Hostage situation was reported inside the Iranian parliament amid the shooting.

A gunman claimed to be a suicide bomber has been surrounded by security forces inside the Iranian parliament complex, where lawmakers are carrying out a session, Iranian media reported Wednesday.

"One of gunmen inside Parliament is a suicide bomber, currently surrounded by security forces," the Mehr news service said on its Twitter account.
It added later that the parliament session was "going on normally, broadcast live on national radio, despite gunmen attack."

Meanwhile, Iranian state news agency Tasnim reports, that at least 7 people were killed in the shooting and 4 are being held hostages.
