Thirty-two guests have been rescued by security forces. Mali's Security Minister stated that at least two men were killed during the terror attack, which targeted the luxury Campement de Kangaba resort. One of the fatalities was said to be a French citizen.
He added that about 20 hostages in the resort area on the outskirts of Bamako had been freed.
Mali has been combatting an armed insurgency for years. In November 2015, gunmen took hostages at the Radisson Blu hotel in Bamako. The attack, which was claimed by al-Qaeda's North African affiliate, the al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb group, left at least 20 dead.
