Welcome to Chernobyl! First Hostel Opens in Famous Ghost Town
17:00 GMT 19.06.2017 (Updated: 19:30 GMT 19.10.2022) The newly-opened guesthouse “Polesie” in Chernobyl, Ukraine, can accommodate 100 people in its 42 rooms, which have everything for comfortably living in the exclusion zone: showers, TV and free Wi-Fi.
The city of Chernobyl is infamous for the catastrophic nuclear disaster that occurred in April 1986, after which the area was locked down. Since 2003, the United Nations Development Program launched a project called the Chernobyl Recovery and Development Program for the recovery of the affected areas.
