Run, Baby, Run! Flamingo Chick Gets Some Exercise
13:11 GMT 23.06.2017 (Updated: 19:30 GMT 19.10.2022) This adorable Greater Flamingo chick is a rising Internet star! The bird is a resident of the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, whose hatching was watched live by more than a million Facebook users in May. Now, the chick has grown a little and its keepers take it to run around the big centroid at the zoo for exercise.
The name for the Cincinnati Zoo's adolescent Greater Flamingo was also chosen by Internet users through a Facebook poll. After nearly 7,800 votes, the chick was named Taffy. The other options were Cornell (after Chris Cornell), Streamer (because the hatching was streamed live), Phoenix (a play on the Flamingo's scientific name Phoenicopterus) and Ostrich. Once big enough, Taffy will join the rest of the Flamingo colony at the zoo.
