BEIJING (Sputnik) — Torrents of mud caused by heavy rain swept the village in the Maoxian county at around 6:00 a.m. local time. Some 40 homes have been destroyed, according to the CGTN television channel. A search-and-rescue operation is underway.

This is not the first landslide in the Asian country this year. For example in April, three people were killed in a landslide that hit southeastern Chinese province of Fujian. In January, a landslide hit a hotel in the Hubei province killing two people.
