WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Sixteen additional strikes in Syria destroyed well-heads, oil storage tanks, fighting positions and a Daesh communications tower near Abu Kamal and Raqqa, the coalition said.
"Near Dayr Az Zawr, five strikes destroyed 39 ISIS [Daesh] oil barrels, 28 oil storage tanks, 16 oil stills, and five oil trucks," the release stated on Tuesday.
Two strikes consisting of 46 engagements in Iraq targeted the terror group near Mosul and Tal Afar.
Operation Inherent Resolve said one strike near Tal Afar engaged a Daesh tactical unit and destroyed a bunker.
"Near Mosul, one strike engaged an ISIS [Daesh] tactical unit; destroyed 28 fighting positions, 11 medium machine guns, an IED [improvised explosive device], and a VBIED [vehicle-borne IED] facility; and damaged a fighting position," the release said.
The coalition said in a statement on Monday that Mosul was cleared of Daesh militants and under the firm control of the Iraqi Security Forces.
The US-led coalition of 72 members is conducting airstrikes, ground-based and rocket-propelled artillery fire against Daesh (banned in numerous countries) in Syria and Iraq. The strikes in Iraq are conducted in support of the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the UN Security Council or the government of President Bashar Assad.
