The US Marines have published unclassified footage of US artillery disrupting terrorist operations in a key strategic city in Syria.

The video was recorded on May 14, according to the Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve.

Howitzer batteries have been used by the US military since the Second World War. The shells in the video come from the M777 Howitzer, which entered service in 2005. The US Marine Corps was responsible for the attack, Military.com reported.

India, Australia and Canada have also fielded the BAE Systems-made weapons in their ground forces.

The film shows a target in the city of Raqqa, Syria, that has long been considered a Daesh control center. The Syrian town is still the site of intense fighting between various opposition groups, including the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), in an effort to liberate the city’s people from the tyranny of Daesh rule.

Anti-Daesh fighters reported progress on the Raqqa front Tuesday. A military source within the SDF told Sputnik Lebanon that the group’s combatants had ousted Daesh from the settlement of Al Oukairishi, about nine miles (15 kilometers) southwest of Raqqa.
