WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Durbin said Trump is seeking to find evidence backing his claims of voter fraud in the 2016 US presidential election. Trump claims three million people illegally voted in the election.
“It’s a partisan commission and it’s created for a partisan reason and there’s a built-in skepticism based on some of the representations made by the president,” Durbin stated.
Senate Democrats have urged Trump’s commission to rescind its requests for private voter information. US Senator Amy Klobuchar said at the press conference Tuesday that 44 states have officially refused to comply with the commission’s request.
On May 11, Trump issued an executive order establishing an advisory commission on election integrity, and ordered the commission to issue a report laying out the vulnerabilities in voting systems and other practices that could lead to fraudulent voter registration or voting.
