WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The statement noted that Americans Nicholas Warden, 29, and Robert Grodt, 28, were killed fighting alongside Kurdish military forces in the city of Raqqa, which is a Daesh stronghold in Syria.
The Washington Post stated on Tuesday, citing YPG and US officials, that Warden and Grodt had no prior military experience.
The YPG is part of the Syrian Democratic Forces and a US partner force in the Syrian conflict.
The Kurdish fighters, often commended as the most effective force against Daesh, have been receiving support from the United States to fight the terror group in Syria.
