MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Monday, the broadcaster said it received documents that mainly concerned 10 incidents between 2009-2013 in which special forces killed unarmed civilians and mutilated corpses of Taliban fighters. The media reported that the inspector general of the Australian Defence Force was investigating at least two of the incidents.
The incidents in question both took place in September 2013. The first involved the deaths of a man and his six-year-old child during a raid on a house, and second concerned the killing of a detainee who allegedly attempted to seize an Australian serviceman's weapon.
Australia first deployed its troops in Afghanistan in 2001 and withdrew a major part of these servicemen in late 2013. Despite being a non-NATO state, Australia has currently 270 defense and civilian personnel in Afghanistan, providing training to local forces.
