MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The ambassador, who will come to Turkey next week to replace Andrey Karlov, who was murdered by Turkish off-duty police officer Mevlut Mert Altintas in Ankara in December, expressed a hope that he would manage to make a contribution to expansion of the sphere of common understanding between Russia and Turkey.
"We are closely cooperating… on the situation in Syria. We have a common understanding, which is proved by the achievements of the Astana [reconciliation] process," Yerkhov said.
Russia and Turkey along with Iran are guarantors of the Syrian ceasefire regime that came into force in late December. The guarantors also play an active role in the Astana peace process seeking to reach the national reconciliation in Syria.
