"Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. Herndon, Virginia, has been awarded a $41,295,387 contract in support of the Battlefield Airborne Communications Node E-11A platform maintenance requirement," the release stated on Wednesday. "This contract provides for logistics product support for four E-11A modified Bombardier BD-700 Global aircraft, as well as subsystems and support equipment in support of overseas contingency operations (OCO)."
The Battlefield Airborne Communications Node, or BACN, translates and distributes imagery, video, voice and data to US soldiers ground troops operating regions with nearby mountainous terrain, according to US Air Force published documents. The system operates on four E-11As modified Bombardier BD-700 Global aircraft, and three high altitude drones.
Work will be performed in Kandahar, Afghanistan, and the US state of Maryland.
