"This is yet another cynical decision [of the Ukrainian government] to publicly demonstrate disrespect toward our country and, most of all, toward its own citizens … The unreasonable policy of Kiev makes one sad. We will follow the development of the situation and carefully weigh our retaliatory measures, their necessity and feasibility, so as not to aggravate the situation and not to harm neither our nor Ukrainian citizens," Matvienko said.
On Monday, Ukraine’s National Security Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov announced the introduction of biometric control for all foreigners, including Russians, traveling to Ukraine from January 2018. Russian citizens would also have to notify the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry about their arrival beforehand.
Currently, Russian citizens can travel to Ukraine without visas.
