WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Four US Senators have drafted legislation to block the creation of a joint cybersecurity unit with Russia, Senator Amy Klobuchar said in a statement.
"Introduced legislation w [with] @SenatorCardin, @Senator Durbin, @SenJackReed to prevent the creation of a cybersecurity unit w Russia," Klobuchar said in a Twitter post on Wednesday.
US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met for more than two hours on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, last Friday. During their talks, Trump showed support for the idea of setting up a joint cybersecurity unit, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Trump later appeared to back away from the idea of cooperating with Russia on cybersecurity, saying in a Twitter post that the fact that he discussed a cybersecurity unit with Putin does not mean he thinks it can happen.
