Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated newly-elected chairman of the Israeli Labor Party Avi Gabbay on winning the opposition party's leadership, local media reported Thursday.

GAZA (Sputnik) — In a telephone call with Gabbay, Abbas stressed the importance of the two-state solution in putting the end to the Israeli-Palestine conflict, the WAFA news agency reported.

The president added that peace between Israel and Palestine would bring stability to the entire region.

The Labor Party is closely associated with supporting the Israeli–Palestinian peace process and currently holds 19 out of 120 seats in the parliament.
