"Near Raqqah, 12 strikes engaged 10 ISIS tactical units and destroyed nine fighting positions, a command and control node, an anti-air artillery system, a VBIED [vehicle-borne improvised explosive device], and a tunnel," the release stated on Thursday.
Coalition forces also carried out seven additional strikes in Syria near the cities of Abu Kamal and Deir Ez-Zor. Those strikes destroyed oil stills, oil barrels, oil trucks, well-heads, oil tanks and an oil refinery building of Daesh.
In Iraq, coalition forces conducted five strikes against Daesh near five cities, including Mosul and Tal Afar. The strikes destroyed tactical vehicles, fighting positions, machine guns, a rocket-propelled grenade system, bunker systems, and engaged multiple tactical units.
The US-led coalition of 72 members is conducting airstrikes, ground-based and rocket-propelled artillery fire against Daesh in Syria and Iraq. The strikes in Iraq are conducted in support of the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the UN Security Council or the government of President Bashar Assad.
