SOSNOVY BOR (Sputnik) — The launch of the Unit 1 of Russia's Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant II will take place in September-October, the NPP's director told Sputnik Thursday.
"The physical launch will take place this year, particularly in September-October," Vladimir Pereguda said.
The NPP's director added that the nuclear fuel for the Unit 1 reactor had already been shipped to the plant, located in the town of Sosnovy Bor in Russia's Leningrad Region.
The Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant II is designed to replace the reactors at the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant I, which are reaching the end of their service lives. The Power Plant II is to be equipped with four VVER-1200 pressurized water reactors.
